Active in empowering the deaf and blind, Divyadrishti Educational and Welfare Society is a non-profit organization founded by Ankush Gupta in 2016. Divyadrishti is a Sanskrit word, which means “Divine Sight”. The foundation pledges to support deaf and visually impaired people by educating them. The NGO initiated a project focusing on barrier-free education in 2015. To realize his dream, Ankush Gupta traveled through rural areas by public transport to find deaf and blind people residing in confined homes. He intended to bring them out of their restricted spaces and educate them to give them an intellectual vision. Certainly, the philosophy behind starting the NGO was to provide productive exposure to deaf and blind people about becoming self-sufficient. Indeed, the aim is to enlighten them in different fields and give meaning to their life.
Voices of the Unheard: A Journey of Inclusion and Impact
Wandering restlessly for a mission to serve the purpose of life, Ankush Gupta saw a woman news interpreter using sign language to communicate news. That day became a turning point in his life as he got intrigued by the use of sign language for communication. He felt the urge to learn the sign language. While learning the language, he got introduced to the deaf community. Indeed, their life stories, hardships, daily challenges, and rejection from the society moved him a lot. He polished his learning skills, met deaf people, and delved deeper into their underprivileged lives. With the zest to help them, he volunteered as an interpreter for deaf people in hospitals, schools, and other places for aiding civil services to them. This opened a plethora of opportunities for deaf people in education and employment sectors. Certainly, it was a huge development for deaf community as they were side-lined by the society.
